The Junior Graphic Designer, you will be part of the Chartwell’s Marketing Team. Will reports into the Manager, Creative Services, working collaboratively with other designers on the team. Additionally, this role involves close collaboration with the marketing, digital, and the communications team and other stakeholders to maintain brand consistency and ensure timely completion of all projects. They should possess skills in maneuvering through the complexity and demands of a large organization.

Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Executes marketing campaign across media (Direct Mails, Billboard, Transit, Newspaper, Posters, publications, online ads, and other promotional materials) throughout the year ensuring consistent branding and design.
  • Conceptualizing, designing, and creating collateral material such as, catalogues, brochures, print and online ads, promotional materials, tradeshow signage, outdoor/indoor signs, and suite/floor plan.
  • Develops new design directions and continuously improves marketing materials by researching current Marketing/Design Trends, benchmarking against other institutions, and evaluating customer feedback.
  • Develop visual content for our website, social media, and other digital channels.
  • Develops engaging and effective designs for websites and landing pages that align with Chartwell’s brand and marketing goals, focusing on user experience and lead generation.
  • Designs with a strong focus on the user journey, ensuring an intuitive, seamless user experience that enhances user engagement and satisfaction.
  • Collaborates with digital marketing teams to ensure designs are optimized for search engines, accessibility, usability best practices including load times, responsive and mobile first design.
  • Work efficiently for short turnaround from approved conceptual development straight through to final execution, both digital and print
  • Strong understanding of brand design and branding principles; command of layout and typography
  • Cleaning, resizing, and clipping photography from in-house studio shoots.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously, from concept to completion, and maintain a high level of attention to detail with exceptional accuracy.
  • Stay up to date with industry trends and best practices to continually improve the quality of our designs.

Qualifications/Skills:

  • Diploma or Degree in Applied Arts/Graphic Design/Advertising
  • 1-2 years of print and digital creative graphic design experience.
  • Proficient in design and prototyping tools (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, Sketch, Figma) including but not limited to InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Adobe XD, and Microsoft Office.
  • Knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript an added asset to have for collaborating effectively with web developers.
  • Understands UX/UI design best practices, including responsive design, to ensure accessibility and a positive user experience across all devices.
  • Knowledge of web accessibility standards (e.g., WCAG) and best practices to ensure that all designs are accessible to users with various needs.
  • Strong aesthetic skills and a demonstration of graphic design core principles with respect to typography, layout/composition, colour, photography, and iconography
  • Knowledge of AODA (accessibility)
  • Knowledge of Digital Asset Management System (DAM) an added asset
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to implement and manage details, prioritize, time manage, and multi-task with limited supervision and sometimes under time pressure.
  • Possess keen eye for detail; proofreading all layouts; great problem/solving skills; being resourceful.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills which include collaboration and influencing others.
  • Self-motivated, able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to accept and integrate constructive feedback from superiors.
