User Experience Design Student Intern

ABOUT THIS ROLE

Join a growing User Experience (UX) team and assist in designing the next generation of digital applications to enable our workforce. As we are scaling up our UX and Design Thinking practice, we need someone to support creating and delivering UX solutions that can be implemented across a wide range of project domains and operational environments.

As a UX Intern, you will assist in applying human-centered design principles to assess and evaluate behaviors of targeted groups of people, translating that knowledge into meaningful information to inform and improve business applications and processes.

The ideal candidate is passionate about user-centered design and eager to learn and contribute to various projects using various design methodologies.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist in designing and facilitating workshops using design thinking methods to clarify problems and ideate solutions.
  • Support the development of training material to promote design thinking competency to a broad internal audience.
  • Collaborate with practitioners and coaches to advance design thinking best practices across the organization.
  • Aid in identifying gaps between the current and the ideal user experience to drive innovation focus and purpose.
  • Assist in visualizing solutions using professional design tools as well as sticky notes, sketch boards, whiteboard markers, or whatever tools are necessary to work from concepts to prototypes rapidly.
  • Help create low and high-fidelity clickable and interactive prototypes.
  • Assist in engaging with stakeholders, product owners, developers, and end-users to gain insights that inform design decisions.
  • Support the production of detailed user flows, wireframes, prototypes, and user interface specifications based on project requirements and user stories.
  • Assist in planning and executing evaluative research to iteratively and rapidly get feedback on ideas and designs at various stages in design and development.
  • Assist in conducting usability testing sessions and analyzing user feedback to improve design solutions.
  • Participate in user interface design reviews and provide constructive feedback to peers.
  • Collaborate with the UX team to ensure consistency and adherence to design standards and guidelines.
  • Continuously challenge the effectiveness of design solutions, recommending changes as appropriate.
  • Serve as a support resource on user-centered design and design thinking.

EXPERIENCE & SKILLS

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s in Graphic Design or a related field.
  • No prior experience is required, but some coursework in user experience design and design thinking methods is preferred.
  • Understanding of user-centered design methods and best practices.
  • Basic knowledge of design thinking methods, templates, and mindset.
  • Familiarity with user-centered design and user research methodologies, including quantitative and qualitative techniques for both evaluative and generative research.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, XD, etc.) and in MS Office products.
  • Experience working with cross-functional, collaborative teams is a plus.
  • Extremely detail-oriented, flexible to change, high tolerance for ambiguity, and self-motivated.
  • Must be comfortable making decisions independently as well as within a team.
