Salary Progression by Total Work Terms Completed:
- Work Term 1 (first work term): $22.50/hr
- Work Term 2: $25.00/hr
- Work Term 3: $27.50/hr
- Work Term 4: $29.00/hr
- Work Term 5: $30.00/hr
- Work Term 6: $31.00/hr

Safe Software is seeking a UX Design Intern to join our Product Development team and contribute to the design of our web applications.
This is a four-month, full-time placement (with the possibility of an 8-month extension). To ensure the best onboarding and mentorship experience, interns are required to work on-premise at least 2 days per week at our Surrey, BC office, with the flexibility to work remotely from home for the remaining days.
About The Team
The Product Development department supports Safe Software’s entire FME product platform (Form/Engine, Flow, Flow Hosted, and Mobile). Within this department, teams are cross-functional, comprising Developers, QA Analysts, Product Managers, and UX Designers, to support the end-to-end development cycle.
As part of the UX Design team, you’ll collaborate with a small team of designers, developers, and other professionals to create a seamless user experience. You’ll also work closely with other UX designers to ensure consistency across all products, provide and receive feedback, and contribute to the overall UX practice at Safe Software.

What You’ll Be Doing
As a UX Design Intern, you’ll help deliver solutions that improve the workflows of our users. On any given day, you may:
- Build low-fidelity wireframes, high-fidelity mockups, or polished interfaces to share with the team.
- Collaborate with developers to transform designs into working features.
- Help design a best-in-class design system that supports a cross-platform user experience.
- Present and share your design work with stakeholders to inform discussions and decisions.
- Conduct user research to guide and validate design choices.
- Contribute to the overall design practice at Safe Software alongside other designers.
Qualifications, Skills, And Competencies
We value creativity, passion for design, and the ability to advocate for users. While direct experience in all areas isn’t required, the following skills and experiences will help you succeed:
- Ability to create wireframes, mockups, and interactive prototypes to communicate interactions and design intent.
- Familiarity with visual design and prototyping tools such as Figma or Adobe Creative Cloud.
- Understanding of visual design principles (UI, icons, and illustration).
- Strong communication skills to articulate design details and collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
- Passion for user-centric design and advocacy for user needs.
- A portfolio showcasing previous projects you’re proud of.
Desired Skills / Bonus Points
- Experience with tools like Jira, Confluence, or similar development tracking systems.
- Familiarity with Google Suite (Google Docs, Sheets, etc.).
- Students in their 3rd year or above are preferred.
- Prior co-op or work experience in UX/UI, Interaction Design, or Product Design is an asset.
